How to Be Confident Without Seeming Arrogant

Confidence isn't something you earn, it's something you are, It's taking action, taking risks and knowing that failure is learning. Let's discuss how to start pursuing your passions because you have sovereignty and how to let go of the need for external validation that's holding you back.
Confident people do what they feel called to do. Even when it's messy, even without all the tools and resources. Trust that you know what you know and you will learn what you need to learn. Face your fears and do it anyway.
Be confident now. Start noticing all the situations that you handle with assurance, even when things get challenging.
Appreciate even the smallest ways that you are confident and start noticing how you feel in your body in those moments. You can adopt those same physical traits in moments when you are less confident to cue yourself towards confidence.
Arrogance is a bullying persona adopted by people who don;t feel confident to shut down opposition by making others wrong. Confidence is curious, asks for help and fails forward.

We all dream of having a career we're passionate about. But so many people put themselves into a track and passively wait for opportunities to come. This episode explores the intrepid career path of someone who took a stand for making a difference and never stopped evolving.
Advocate for what you believe in. Even if it's not initially well received, keep going- you never know when your message will land with the right person.
View every "no" as a "not yet" and keep pursuing the way to get what you want accomplished.
There is a ripple effect that occurs when you inspire others to take action that will amplify your own work.
Everything is an equity issue- link what you are doing back to those who will be served by it.
No matter how much you achieve in your career, keep evolving. Never stop moving towards new opportunities.
Tell your story quantitatively. Facts are not subjective and help surface where there's work to be done.
No matter how great your message, if you don't connect with the people you want to help, it's like yelling into the wind.

Sustainability is an imperative, not a nice to have. My Earth Day 2022 guest Stacy Smedley shares how she turned her passion for a better world into an advocacy based career and became a leading voice of the industry.
Have an impact first attitude. It's about what you can do, not the channel you use to get there. Do more than get credentials.
Ask for the opportunities you want and see how the work you are doing today contributes to those opportunities.
Look for ways to learn by getting involved in the greater community of professionals. This will create a network to elevate your impact. Your network isn't a hub and spoke hierarchy. It's an ecosystem of interconnected resources and abilities.
Sustainable measures should be based on the project goals, not an evaluation system. The system you choose will then help you stretch what you consider for the project.
Stop thinking about sustainability from where you sit. Think in the context of the industry, the community and globally.
Know what terms like embodied carbon mean and make sure everyone on your team is speaking the same language.
This year's Earth Day theme Invest in Our Planet can challenge us to think not just of how we can incentivize sustainability but the cost of not taking action.
Sustainability, resilience and equity are interconnected and as you achieve impact in one area, you begin to also impact the others, so think about how they can work together on your projects.
Don't be afraid of the 3/4 baked idea. Share thoughts in development and work in progress within your network to improve and amplify them.

Did you know you were in sales? Not just to win new work, but to navigate your day. Everything from client meetings to internal hard talks is about selling your ideas and showing how you can help others solve their most painful problems.
Success is about sales- convincing the other person that you can help them.
Welcome and expect dissent. Be curious about why someone has the concerns they do.
Disagreement is not rejection. It's doubt. Ferret out someone's real concerns and the big problems keeping them up at night and you will be able to win them over by addressing them
"Because I said so," is not a reason for anyone to listen to you. It didn't work when your mother did it, and it won't work with clients or colleagues. Give reasons behind your logic and ask for feedback.
Avoid polarizing the issues. You are not "right." The other person is not "wrong." You are here to solve their problem.

Your Self Definition Needs a Rewrite
Apr 11, 2022
Apr 11, 2022
24 min
What labels have you slapped on yourself because you think you should show up a certain way? In this episode, we explore ways you've limited your potential with these definitions. It's time for a rewrite- one that aligns with who you are not who you think you are supposed to be.
Think about how you see yourself. Does this match with how others see you? Does it resonate with your core self?
If you are living with labels applied to yourself, you are restricting your potential. Instead, you burden yourself with all of the expectations and obligations that come with the label.
When you allow yourself to be defined according to someone else's idea of what you "should" or "must" do, you get drawn into codependency. This makes you responsible for other people' outcomes, at the expense of what you really need or want to thrive.
Get out of the box you were told you had to navigate within by rediscovering the essential you.
People read the labels you place on yourself- rewrite the self definition and you show up differently in the world.

Networking for Introverts: Conference Skills
Mar 24, 2022
Mar 24, 2022

We live in a culture that forces extroverted interactions, even though most of us are introverts. Listen in for my pro tips on how to network effectively at conferences without feeling fake.
Introverts navigate the world differently from extroverts. Because interacting with others depletes our energy, we need to find opportunities for restoration.
Don't feel pressured to over-socialize. Use passive moments like listening to presentations as opportunities for solitude by sitting by yourself.
Nix the awkward small talk. Instead, ask meaningful questions to targeted people. By expressing genuine interest in someone's work, you make authentic connections.
Find alone time during breaks. This can look like sitting in a quiet corner, going outside, or even back to your hotel rooms.
Find things in common to discuss during networking events. Ask open ended questions.
Practice gracefully ending conversations that have run their course.
