- Codependency has nothing to do with your strength of character or resilience. It's rooted in your need to make others happy at the expense of your own well being.
- Signs that you have a problem with codependency include, need for control, perfectionism, suppressing your emotions, losing your own identity and sense of what you actually want and need.
- Codependency has become institutionalized in our profession and looks like overperforming, lack of respect for schedules, and sacrificing fees or staff well being to please a client.
- Getting out of codependency requires getting back in touch with your own identity, needs and wants and making them non-negotiable.
